Tom Daley won the gold medal in Tokyo, but it was his images knitting in the stands that made him world famous in recent days. However, this practice has long been popular with many Hollywood celebrities.

British athlete Thomas (Tom) Daley caught the eye in Tokyo by winning the gold medal in synchronized jumping, alongside Matty Lee, but also in his spare time and while watching classmates’ competitions give way to another passion: knitting .

For the Olympic champion, who has an Instagram page dedicated to the art of knitting, doing it during the Olympic Games was a form of therapy to relieve the pressure of high competition. “The only thing that kept me sane throughout this whole process was my love of knitting, crochet and sewing,” she said on her Instagram account “Madewithlovebytomdaley“, in a video where he showed a knitted bag to carry his gold medal.

Thomas Daley, who is also an activist for the LGBT cause and one of the first Olympic athletes to speak openly about his homosexuality, managed to reconcile support for other colleagues in competition with knitting, alternating attention to knitting with observation and applause at the tests of the other athletes, as in the female final of the synchronized jump.

From Tokyo he takes, in addition to a gold medal and the respective bag that he sewed, a knitted jacket that he knitted alluding to his participation in these Olympics.

But if Thomas Daley surprised the world with this pastime in what is the most important sporting event in the world, let those who think that this is an exclusively feminine art from the time of grandparents be disappointed.

There are many celebrities in Hollywood, for example, including several men, who have joined the passion for knitting for several years. In the years 2013, 2014, there was even a kind of “knitting mania” (“knitting mania”), as the Italian magazine ‘Elle’ recalls. Among knitting lovers, as a hobby and therapy, came the names of Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe.

The ‘Drive’ actor said, in an interview with ‘Vanity Fair’, that during the shooting of a scene from the movie ‘Lars and True Love’ he was “in a room full of old ladies who were knitting”. “It was a whole day scene, so they taught me how to do [tricô]. It was one of the most relaxing days of my life,” he then stated.

In the 1990s, Russell Crowe was photographed knitting for a magazine shoot. Staging or reflection of personal taste, what is certain is that the image has become a myth and the Australian actor is still considered today as a reference and inspiration for other male knitters. In an interview with ‘Wired’ last year, the hero of ‘Gladiator’ did not completely undid his belief and revealed that as a child his mother taught him to knit.

In a Puma advertisement, footballer Antoine Griezmann also appeared knitting.

Julia Roberts is Julia Roberts who doesn’t do without this art of knitting and is known for this for several years. The actress takes this practice so seriously that in 2011, the team of the film ‘Larry Crowne’, who co-stars with Tom Hanks, played a prank on her, inspired by her hobby, as illustrated in the video below.

360 videos are not supported here. Watch the video on the Youtube application.

In the filming of the film ‘Mad Max: Road to Fury’, which premiered in 2015, actor Nicholas Hoult also took advantage of the moments of break to knit.

David Arquette, Meryl Streep and Amanda Seyfried are other actors known, too, for their love of knitting.

While the medals are still being disputed in Tokyo, countless athletes are already working hard to secure a place in the next Olympic Games, the 2024, in Paris.

Gymnast Christal Bezerra, 16, and wrestling (wrestling and Greco-Roman) Ailton Brito, 21, are two examples of this.

Christal seeks space in artistic gymnastics | Disclosure

A few weeks before the Olympic Pyre was lit in Tokyo, Christal was in Rio de Janeiro disputing the Pan American Gymnastics, where he won three medals. Ailton, on the other hand, was in Sergipe, where he took silver in the Brazilian Under-23 of his sport.

Christal lives with his mother and grandparents in Guaianases, east side of São Paulo, and Ailton lives in Brasilândia, in North Zone, and are part of the promises coming from the outskirts that dream of the Olympic podium.

This is the last report in the series about the Olympics and the peripheries. Since the beginning of the games, the Mural Agency told the story of Olympic medalists from the past, about athletes from the quebradas that are in this edition in Tokyo and, now, the promises for the next editions.

The three reports were also episodes of Next Stop, a podcast by Mural Agency, original Spotify.

A similarity between them, and which is also present in the trajectory of Fofão and Felipe dos Santos, is the work at the COTP (Olympic Training and Research Center), at Ibirapuera.

Created in 1976, the COTP is the main public equipment for training high-performance athletes in São Paulo.

Despite being a reference, it is also a symbol of the lack of investment in sports on the outskirts of the city. For over 40 years, athletes from all over São Paulo have had to travel to the Olympic Center to develop as an athlete.

Guaianases, where Christal lives, has 0.18 public sports facilities for every 10,000 inhabitants, according to the 2020 Inequality Map. She spends two hours on each trip to the Olympic Center, a place she has frequented since she was four years old, when her mother noticed that the little one had a knack for gymnastics.

She got me into ballet first, but I just hung, climbed walls, did somersaults anywhere. Someone in the family knew the Olympic Center and ended up putting me, at the age of four, to take the test there and I passed”, says the gymnast.

Gymnastics has revealed talents since 2000 and, this year, it brought one of the gold medals to Brazil this year, with Rebecca, a breeder from the outskirts of Guarulhos. Christal has already met Daiane dos Santos, one of the main references in the sport and who is currently a sports commentator.

Ailton started attending COTP much later. Before knowing the Olympic wrestling, he was introduced to jiu jitsu, through a project at the school where he studied. “I went to train at a gym and there was a teacher there who taught wrestling. Then he said if I wanted to see the fight. I liked it at first sight, it was love at first sight”.

Today, the routine starts at 5 am, when he wakes up to go to the physical education college, and then goes to training at Ibirapuera, arriving home only around 8 pm.

Ailton won silver in the Brazilian under 23 stage of the fight | Disclosure

According to the São Paulo Department of Sports, the difference between COTP and other public facilities, such as Community Clubs and School Clubs, is the purpose of “promoting the development of competitive athletes and teams in the youth categories”, as well as the private and traditional clubs, such as Paulistano and Pinheiros.

Therefore, it is common for athletes trained by the Olympic Center to start participating in competitions. In Christal’s case, she doesn’t even remember when she was the first one, she was so young.

“[Lembro que] there was a team of 30 girls that trained with me, that we used to go to championships, it felt like school. We cheered for each other, we were very happy, I remember that, the little ones.”

Ailton’s experience with the first competitions, on the other hand, did not have so much childlike innocence, but rather the adrenaline that any young person seeks in their hobbies:

“There is no way to forget my first competition, in Rio de Janeiro. I still won, but the feeling was very strange, a different adrenaline”, recalls the fighter, who won his first gold medal after just two months in wrestling. “Even if I hadn’t won, the feeling of fighting there is inexplicable.”

Corona or not: The pandemic has shown us all that crises can come faster than expected – and that every company can be happy when it has resilient employees. But how do I know if someone is well prepared for potential crises? Even in the application phase – for example during the job interview – HR managers can get a good picture. These tips and tricks will help.

Self-awareness: listening to yourself

In order to be able to deal with crises well, one needs a basic skill: a healthy self-awareness in the literal sense. Can someone take care of themselves? That doesn’t mean you should be looking for Instagram wellness mindfulness gurus now. Apart from these high-gloss facades, crisis resistance is about whether people can perceive and communicate what they themselves need in order to survive critical phases.

At first glance, it may seem tempting to hire a workaholic who doesn’t value anything but his job. But firstly, the burn-out is actually only a matter of time and secondly, sheer quantity does not mean class. Instead, get team members who deal with stress and crises and with themselves considerately – be it with hobbies like archery, bouldering or collecting stamps.

Of course, an interview is not the appropriate place to pester people with questions about their personal life crises. But you can ask, for example, what people do to compensate for their work and what helps them to relax.

Empathy: empathize with others

Not having empathy quickly becomes a breaking point in times of crisis. We all deal with stress differently and have different warning signs. So that you don’t rock each other up in a negative spiral to the point of a big bang, it is all the more important that team members understand that other people may think differently from themselves, but can still put themselves in their shoes. That connects seamlessly with self-awareness: If I know myself, can interpret my warning signals and then also be able to show indulgence with myself, I can do this better with my team – and probably also better recognize when the colleague is taking a short break or the colleague needs a word of encouragement.

Patsy is a Labrador that can’t do without a good nap, come rain or shine

Patsy is a Labrador dog who has been with her family for five years and, over that time, has acquired some favorite activities, including getting treats at Mom’s office, meeting babies, going out for walks and even eating ice cream. But when she’s not doing any of her favorite hobbies, she loves to just lie down on the deck and take a few good naps.

“She is a sun goddess. With my husband working at home, because of the covid, she often joins him outside and gives him some moral support,” says Margot Hoeflinger, Patsy’s tutor, on The Dodo website. “We have many indoor and outdoor dog beds, but in her opinion, hot dry is best.”

One afternoon, Patsy was dozing on the deck, as she usually does, until it started to rain. The tutors rushed into the house, but she didn’t seem to mind the storm too much.

“Jokingly, we call her our queen because she’s just relaxing all the time and doesn’t bother to get up – in this case, not even because of a storm,” said the tutor. “We were working in the yard when we ran for cover and realized she had no motivation to get up and get out of the rain.”

The tutors called her in, until finally she got up – with some reluctance – and that’s when Patsy’s parents noticed that, where the dog’s body was, the floor was very dry and, more funny, the mark was exactly the same as the pet’s body shape.

The lazy dog ended up making a beautiful work of art by refusing to get up because of the rain

The tutors couldn’t stop laughing when they noticed the “twin sister” that Patsy had raised. Even if it’s something momentary (until the rest of the floor dries), for them, the family dog had created a beautiful work of art.

Simple grave 1

The first simple grave is found in an island south of the Jakotsu Mine, which you can reach using fast travel to Maguu Kenki. Once there, you just have to slide down the mountain until you reach it.

As in each one, interact with the tomb and offer one of the Dendobrio flowers to complete this first objective.

Simple grave 2

The second grave is found next to the Maguu Kenki area (south of Higi Village), one of the bosses of the game. Use fast travel to northwest of this area, and cross the cliff to the south.

You will be able to see it next to a mountain, on a ledge hidden behind a tree. Follow the same procedure as with the previous single grave.

Simple grave 3

To find the third tomb you will have to travel to Head of the Snake, and look for the puzzle area, going down the axes of several doors. Explore this area thoroughly and you will find it.

Of course, next to this third grave you will meet a mini boss, which you can fight to gain experience.

The fourth tomb is found in Nazuchi Beach, near Yashiori Island. Once there, head southwest and take a closer look at a huge rock in the middle of the sand.

In this large rock you will find tomb number 4. Place the Dendobrio when interacting with it, and follow the process of the previous tombs.

Simple grave 5

Surely you are one of those players who wants to find all the collectibles, and in that the Inazuma region hides very interesting secrets. We talk about achievement “ They will not grow old ”, which earns you some very juicy rewards.

In order to achieve this achievement, you will have to honor the memory of 6 simple tombs on Genshin Impact, during the events of Update 2.0. How to do it? Easy, you will have to get special flowers for it.

These flowers, Dendobrio calls, They’re in the grass around Maguu Kenki, chief that we found south of Serpent’s Head. There you will be able to obtain 6 of the necessary flowers to proceed to achieve the achievement.

But of course, to honor these 6 simple graves first you will have to know where they are. We are going to explain one by one where they are, to facilitate the experience in Genshin Impact.

Simple grave 4

The fourth tomb is found in Nazuchi Beach, near Yashiori Island. Once there, head southwest and take a closer look at a huge rock in the middle of the sand.

In this large rock you will find tomb number 4. Place the Dendobrio when interacting with it, and follow the process of the previous tombs.

Simple grave 5

The fifth tomb can be found at west of the Higi Village Statue of Seven. Continue west from the cliff and fly over the area until you find the grave.

It is necessary that you use the ability to glide when falling off the cliff. You can find the tomb as soon as you go down to the beach, located just below the aforementioned statue.

Simple grave 6

Finally, the sixth and last grave is found southeast of the Fort Fujitou route, north of Yashiori Island. Of course, to get to it you have to climb and fly over some areas of the road.

You will find the simple tomb next to the dirt road, after explore and go through various bushes that hide it in plain sight. Interact with the flower and you will have completed the challenge.

Don’t you get to bed before midnight every night? Do you swear to yourself every morning: “Tonight but earlier.”? Then you may have Revenge Bedtime Procrastination.

It’s 10 p.m., you’re tired. Just enough tired to go to bed and relax for eight hours before you can start the next day well rested. But actually it’s only 10 p.m. … Until twelve o’clock there are easily two episodes on Netflix. Or just surf the net a little? Finally we need some new shoes, oh and this dress is so pretty too … wham, put it in the shopping cart. Well, while we’re here, let’s see what else we can order. Hups, one o’clock. But now, quickly to bed. Five hours of sleep should be enough. Tomorrow I’m going to bed really earlier …

The eternal vicious circle of postponing sleep

Our days are crammed with appointments, after work we take care of shopping, homework, doctor’s appointments, hobbies and of course whoever has the children. For many people, the end of the day really doesn’t start until around 9 p.m. And then of course you want to somehow enjoy it a little and relax. Unfortunately at the expense of our rest period. The result: the night is short, the stress the next day is all the greater because we are even more tired. According to National Geographic, people who are particularly affected by bedtime procrastination have not yet been adequately researched, but interestingly, bedtime procrastinates mainly people who have a lot of freedom of action in their job – for example executives, managers, students and freelancers, explains Dr. Anna Höcker, coach, psychological psychotherapist and expert in stress management and work blockades at National Geographic.

Reasons for Revenge Bedtime Procrastination

Usually it’s about the feeling of catching up on free time that you didn’t have during the day in the evening and at night. A feeling that parents in particular know very well who only have their own time when the kids have disappeared into their beds. The only problem is that the time is felt to be too valuable to “waste” it on sleeping, but at the same time there is no more energy to make it really meaningful. Often you just get stuck in social media and the TV program and what was intended as a short-term reward after a strenuous day quickly becomes a waste of time for several hours without you noticing. “This happens absurdly, especially when we are already tired or stressed from the day or have experienced a lot of frustration – then our cognitive control drops and it is more difficult for us to regulate ourselves,” says Dr. Anna Höcker.

And then one thing leads to another …

Too little sleep leads to even more stress, a guilty conscience and self-reproach. We cannot concentrate very well, we may have headaches, are more irritable and impatient. “What is particularly common is that sleep-deprived people who are overtired during the day tend to poor self-control, which in turn can lead to general procrastination and worsened other health behaviors.” Logical: “If you are overtired and exhausted, you will not be able to bring yourself up to worry about training, exercise or a healthy diet.” In addition, too little sleep leads to the release of the hunger-stimulating hormone ghrelin and can lead to food cravings and unregulated eating.

How do you get out of bedtime procrastination?

1. More time off during the day

If we feel that we are experiencing too few time-outs and relaxation during the day that we have to catch up on in the evening, we can try to incorporate a little more of it into our everyday life. For example, the lunch break can be used for a walk, or you plan short breaks at regular intervals that you can plan for yourself. In addition, we should check our to-do list more often for its importance, not everything always has to be done immediately.

2. Establish new habits

When do I want to lie in bed? We should answer this question and set an alarm clock for it. When the doorbell rings, it’s off to bed. Or we treat ourselves to an episode of our favorite series and then consistently switch off if we otherwise always get stuck in front of it. It becomes a habit after about three weeks.

3. Journaling

Still brooding in the evening? Then it helps to write down your thoughts for 10 minutes before going to bed. This can also happen completely unfiltered and does not have to be easy to read. The main thing is to get out of your head.

4. Pay careful attention to signs of fatigue

Our body says and actually pretty much what it needs – even when it wants to sleep. We just learned to ignore our body awareness. But the good thing is that we can learn it again. Just pay attention to what your body is telling you and go to bed if you feel any signs of fatigue.

5. Make the benefits of sleep clear

And there are a few: regeneration, anti-aging, recovery, relaxation, performance … It is worth getting enough sleep!

6. Develop a sleep routine

Not everyone: they need the same amount of sleep. To find out how much you need, you can experiment a little and work out your own sleep routine.

7. Remove cell phone from bedroom

If you still spend a lot of time on social media in bed, it helps to put your smartphone aside half an hour before you plan to go to bed or to ban it from the bedroom completely. An analog alarm clock is then a good investment.

No panic

Basically, of course, it’s not a tragedy if we go to bed too late. But if the level of suffering increases because we don’t sleep enough, it makes sense to take a look at what you can do with your time in the evening. However, if postponement becomes chronic or excessive, psychological and physical stress increases and you are unsure yourself whether postponement is the cause of deeper problems, an appointment with a psychotherapist is very useful.
